3 Crucial Irrigation Tools That You Need for Your Home Garden

Blog

Irrigation is a wonderful way to supplement the supply of water to your plants. It comes in handy if you live in a dry place or when there is little rainfall and the plants that you have in your garden need water. However, water does not come cheaply, and unless you have a borehole, it can be quite costly to pay for all the water that you will need for farming.

It is advisable to invest in superior irrigation tools because they will increase efficiency in water usage and promote your agricultural activities. Here are the three essential irrigation tools that will help you economise on water usage as you irrigate your plants.

1. Sensors in the Soil

You use sensors to measure the amount of moisture in your soil. It is after determining the moisture content in your soil that you will know how much additional water you need. Some sensors can also check the condition of the plant roots and their water content to determine whether you need to add water to the plant or not.

If you are planning to have a large-scale farming project, this is a tool that you will find useful as it will help you to only irrigate your plants when necessary.

2. Water Flow Meters

A water meter is a gadget that you attach to the pipe that measures the volume of water flowing out into the soil. You can use water irrigation meters to estimate the amount of water that your farm usually needs to be well-watered.

When you install a meter, you allow it to run for a few days and check the reading when the farm has been well-watered. After taking the average readings for a few days, you can figure out how much water your farm needs. From this reading, you can accurately estimate the amount of water required to water your farm without wastage.

3. Drip Irrigation Gadgets

Another tool that you might want to consider investing in is a drip irrigation system. The initial cost of installing a drip irrigation system may seem high, but the results and the amount of water and money conserved are worth the price.

These are just a few of the essential tools you will need for irrigation. It is best to find your irrigation supplies from a reliable source and make sure you work with a trusted brand for strong, durable, and reliable supplies.

Sharing the Family Farm with Siblings and Cousins

Hello, my name is Marta. I grew up on a family farm, and as a girl, I knew that I was not the front runner for inheriting the farm. I thought my parents would err on the side of tradition and give the farm to my brother. However, as we grew up together – weeding gardens, giving horseback riding lessons and driving the tractor – we found that we really enjoyed working together. We also found that we loved working with our cousins who lived on the farm next door. Ultimately, when our parents decided to retire, we all decided to share the farm. Through that experience, we learned a lot, and I want to share that here in this blog. Please, explore, enjoy and learn through our adventures in agriculture.
